F2 FX Formula board 2007
What’s with the nose? Well, that was our first thought but then nothing surprises us anymore from the Patrick Diethelm drawing board! Other designers thought he was mad when he ‘cut-out’ the underside of the board around the fin. Now they’re all doing it. Now he has cut the nose off. In a day and age where most board brands have opted to pull out of Formula production, we think its a very creditable move for F2 to come up with such an innovative design rather than sticking with the tried and tested. Last years board was very successful, lets see how this one fairs against the new Starboard….. WHAT THE BROCHURE SAYS The new FX V Formula board takes it to the maximum with almost every wind range. The outstanding performance and THE STATS
NEW FEATURES In order to keep the high top end speed with such a wide tail, the scoop rocker line has been adjusted and the bottom flat has been shortened by 3cm. Furthermore the V in the front of the board has been increased and wide bevels have been added so that the rails don’t dip into the chop.
The scoop-rocker line has been raised under the mast track area in order to get a smoother ride over chop and small waves. The new FX provides impressive pointing performance with its 6cm wider tail. The new board also has 5cm less overall length which helps high wind sailing considerably. Going upwind at a very steep angle is very easy and there is no muscle force needed. A very thin volume distribution reduces the weight, which tends to become an issue with the ever growing Formula boards these days.
The stance of the back foot is significantly higher than the front foot which helps to build up much more pressure with the rear leg which results in easier sailing and a more direct loading of the fin especially for lighter sailors.
