This is a new concept from NeilPryde to cater for the ‘recreational sailor’. Nothing too radical for this guy; maybe he’s learning to carve gybe, maybe he’s just mastered the water start, maybe he’s just got too much on in life to spend his entire disposable income on a set of fancy specialist sails and he certainly only wants to buy ONE mast and ONE boom. He needs a standard windsurfing sail to do it all, and ‘all’ for him is pottering around on an inland pond on a summer’s evening and hauling his kit on top of his camper van for the yearly vacation to Devon where he might venture out at Bigbury if there are no waves.
Windsurfing is NOT his life, but if he’s going to get wet, he’d rather do it falling off a windsurfer than capsizing a Topper dinghy or a sit on top kayak. He is Zen Man.
Here is what Simon Bennett from Pryde UK had to say about the Zen.
Simon: “The Zen fulfils a really important role in the product range NeilPryde provides as it appeals to a large proportion of windsurfers who either can’t or don’t wish to invest in a vast array of kit but still want a sail that is totally functional and in fact extremely high performance. The concept of one mast, one boom and five sails is perfect for the windsurfer who wants maximum flexibility with minimum cost and hassle of ownership.”
“And don’t think that all this lack of complication produces a poor performance sail, in fact quite the opposite. As a freemove/freeride sail it’s hard to beat. In fact we had one very high profile Neil Pryde Pro Rider practically on his knees, desperate to use it at the PWA Freestyle events! The Zen is probably the sail that 70% of the windsurfing public need; very cost effective, simple to rig and use but with true NeilPryde performance.”
