RRD Wave Boards (Year 14, 08/09 season)

Crikey RRD have been expanding their Team this year! John Skye the most recent to join Kevin Mevissen, Alex Mussolini and Cheo Diaz on the wave and freestyle front. Not to mention slalom and speed legend Finian Maynard who changed over to RRD in the middle of the Canaries PWA Tour. So with plenty of new faces riding their wave kit, have they expanded their wave range as well? Well the Wave Cult lives on with a Hardcore wave range for the purists, and of course the RRD Twin Fin which we have just finished testing in UK waters with five other twin fin boards (results out soon)!

WAVE CULT (Pure)

RRD say: The Wave Cult has the biggest potential to be used in a larger variety of waves, especially in choppy waters and onshore conditions. It is very much a true wave all-rounder boasting easy planing, amazing wind range and smooth turns.

The shape is unchanged and features a full double concave on a full V rail-to-rail configuration for smoother and easier carving performance.

Construction: X-Tech with EPS/ Glass/SX 42 hi density sandwich foam covered by wood top and bottom/biaxial glass laminated in a custom made process.

Range: 75, 80, 85 and 90 litres.
Widths: 55.5cm, 57cm, 59cm, 62cm

WAVE CULT (Hardcore)

RRD say: This is RRD's reference wave board line for the days when conditions are going off. A secure, radical and well-tested scoop rocker line that will give you control and power in any situation. This board will prove your skills and push your limits in riding and jumping from side on to side off winds. The Wave Cult HC is more suitable for bigger and cleaner surf and has a bigger potential for control at high speed.

In relation to the Cult (Pure) line they have more stretched and narrower outlines, tails and noses and feature the same length of 234cms on all volumes.

The bottom shape is a full double concave inside a full single concave rail-to-rail configuration

Volumes: 65, 70 and 75 litres.
Widths: 52cm, 53.5cm, 54.5cm

Construction: Same as the Cult line.

Freestyle Wave LTD

RRD say: By adding two new shapes to the freestyle wave line this year RRD have created the largest and most “custom made” line of windsurfing boards ever produced. We welcome to the family the 120 and 75 litre freestyle waves. Lighter winds are now more fun and stronger winds just got easier. Bigger riders can now consider moving away from freeride boards from 110 to 120 litres!

Full double concave on a single V rail-to-rail configuration ensures smooth turns on both front and back foot.

Construction

Limited range: Custom made full herex 100 sandwich top and bottom with Biaxial Glass/Wood/ deck custom made lamination. Herex 100 Ω (omega) bottom stringers for sizes of 95 litres and below.

X-tech range: The boards also come in the x-tech construction which is more durable and comprises EPS / Glass /SX 42 hi density sandwich foam covered by wood sandwich skin on top and bottom with a Glass laminated in a Single Shot moulding process.

Wave Twin

RRD say: The wave twin is a result of RRD’S heritage in twinzer boards that first started with the YEAR ZERO collection back in the 1990's. Our first wave board line and convertible line of boards were all equipped with twin fins when no other brand was even thinking about this fin system.

The Wave Twin LTD features:

A wide and thick nose shape allows use of the whole rail line to increase the potential grip during turns. The narrow tail assists with manoeuvrability and control at hi-speed. It has a bottom shape of full concave into double concave in the middle and a flat tail, to increase planing potential. This creates an unbeatable mix of power and control. Riding can now be fast, fun and easy in ALL wind directions and for all wave riders looking to take their wavesailing up a level.
