Starboard 2009 Kit Release: Evo, Evil Twin and Kode

EVO

This board range has been a real winner for Starboard; it gets good press and they sell well! Scott McKercher headlines the range on the PWA Tour and of course won the PWA wave title on a production Evo. John Hibbard used the Evo to win the 2007 UK Wave title and will do his best to defend it on the Evo’s this season.

So you’d be surprised if the boys at Starboard have changed anything. Well they have on the smaller models.
The 66 litre has been brought over from the old Acid range and made slightly longer under the guidance of Moroccan Superstar Boujamma Guilloul. The 70, 75 and 80 have thinned out decks lowering the centre of gravity to give more control. The noses have been sharpened up and a refined tail outline especially on the 70 litre board provides more drive.
The Evo 90 and 100 remain the same.

The Evo also comes in a NEW construction: Wood Carbon, the most high tech and therefore lightest and stiffest board Starboard have ever built. We’re talking just over 5kg for a 70litre ish board – that’s light! Look for this new construction across the entire 2009 Starboard range.

EVIL TWIN

What a name! It certainly catches your attention and with most of the major brands competing in the new twin fin market, you need to stand out.

The Evil Twin is a variation on the Evo theme designed for down-the-line conditions. Ok, we may not all be sailing like McKercher on our first session on it, but we’ll get that bit closer using those twin fins to hook into that lip and make those awesome down-the-line sessions that little bit sweeter.

The Evil comes in a 74 and an 80 litre model.

KODE

There is going to be a lot of press about Starboard’s flagship board for 2009. Heh, this range even has its own website! The Kode amalgamates the Combat and the Acid and covers every possible freewave angle from a 68 litre full on wave board to a 122 litre freeride machine. See it as similar to a ‘sail range’ but with differing levels of volume. They also come in the new Wood Carbon construction; Starboard’s attempt to produce the lightest board on the market with a target weight of 5.2kg for the smallest 68 litre.

The Boards

68, 74, 80: Evolved from the pure Acid wave board range, these are ‘traditional’ wave shapes enjoyed by wave legend Kevin Pritchard.

86, 94,102: The ‘crossover’ boards with rocker lines designed for speed but with subtle tail kick and spiralling vee to help with wave & freestyle moves.

112, 122: Think ‘ease of sailing’ with the emphasis on speed and gybing. Enlarged cut-aways give the boards’ quick release for early planing.
