It’s all round ability and wide sail
range (5.5 – 8.5m) to suit most days
on the south coast! It has more of a wave
board feel with volume concentrated over
the centre of the board. I can use it in
a wide range of conditions from flat to pretty
choppy. It is quick downwind and handles
well in most conditions.
Q:
How does it differ from last year’s
model?
A:
The graphics have changed but the shape
and fins remain the same. However the
footstraps and deck pads have received upgrades
to much better quality items : comfort factor
definitely improved!
Q:
What sail sizes have you been using
with it?
A:
From my Hot Sails Maui quiver : 5.3m SO,
5.8m Superfreak, 6.3m Psyclone, 6.8m Psyclone,
7.5m Stealth, 8.5m Stealth
Q:
What fin do you use with it and
where do you position it?
A:
I’ve not really experimented with
fin position but I have it one position forward
of the rearmost position.
Q:
Where do you put the mast track
for different sail sizes?
A:
For 6m I have it around the middle of the track and then move it forward as my sail size increases. It doesn’t
work any furthur back for me being heavier
on my feet than some. Lighter sailors may
find it works well a little further back.
Q:
Where do you put the foot straps
and why?
A:
With it’s thin rails and low volume
tail, being too outboard won’t help
the sailor manoeuvre the board although
when I’m slalom sailing I do leave
them in the outer position. When free
riding I move them inboards and forward a
touch.
Q:
What other boards are in your quiver?
A:
For 11.0m down to 9.0m I use the BIC
FW1.5 which is a full on Formula board
based on Kevin Pritchard World Championship
winning board.
For 8.5m down to 5.3m I use this board.
For 6.3m down to 4.5m I use a Tabou Rocket
Wave 95.
For 4.5m down I’d require a selection
of tablets to induce bravery and would probably
offer them to the owner of the equipment
I was just about to disappear off with!
Q:
Any other comments?
A:
The Techno Evolution Large offers an excellent
do everything board for typical south coast
blasting, bump and jump, & small wave
sailing for the heavier intermediate and
in a durable finish. A real board to progress
on, not the quickest, not the lightest, but
will handle all that is thrown at it.
