Q: What do you like about the sail?

A:

It gets me going in winds when most other freestyle sailors don’t go out as their biggest sails are 6.2m or 6.5m. This 7m is a freeride sail but I can pull off all my freestyle moves with it as well.

Q: What are its limitations?

A: I’m doing freestyle on a freeride sail so it’s limitations are that you do get over powered pretty quickly as the sail has no cambers and I set it on a recreational mast. Once over powered you just can’t make the more complicated aerial freestyle moves.

Q: What mast do you use with it?

A: I use a 460 Aero Max but the sail is designed to set on a 460 Formula Mast.

Q: What boards have you used with it?

A: Only the Playmate 115.

Q: How does it differ from last year’s model?

A: The Amp has replaced the Edge and has a slightly lower foot which means it has been designed with blasting in mind not freestyle! Other than that they both feel the same in your hands.

Q: Describe in detail how you set it.

A:

The sail sets on a 460 mast. Although it is recommended to use a Formula mast, I opted to set it on a Freeride mast (460 Aero Max) because I’m putting the rig through all sorts of twisting motions which require a strong mast. A Formula mast would stop me getting over powered as quickly but if the wind picks up I’ll be changing to a smaller sail anyway.
In very light winds (just a force 3), I use little downhaul and negative outhaul to give the sail that extra lift. Once I’m constantly planning then I pull on enough downhaul so you get a floppy leech between the second and third batten and a little more outhaul.

Q: What is the sail like over powered and under powered?

A: Set on a 460 Formula mast, with blasting in mind, it will handle being over powered as you can sail it with a nice free leech and it’s incredibly stable.
Under powered is great as you can set it with very little outhaul and downhaul and it still works well so you get going in a Force 3 easy.

Q: What other sail sizes are in your quiver?

A: 6.2 and 5.8 Boxer
5.4, 5.0, 4.5, 4.0. 3.7 Session
3m old Narlu
