| Q: |
What do you like about the sail? |
| |
|
| A: |
It is basically an adaptation of the Zone
but a lot stronger and a bit more powerful.
It has a more neutral feeling and it’s
very stable. It is also really soft and twists
off nicely. You don’t hear it crinkling
when you’re sailing along. |

|
| Q: |
What are its limitations? |
| |
|
| A: |
It’s a heavier sail designed for
wave riding and windy, testing conditions.
So it won’t get going as quick as some
of the other Neilpryde sails like the Expression
or the Search. |

|
| Q: |
What
mast do you use it with? |
| |
|
| A: |
During the winter I have been using the
X9 400 with it but I think Neilpryde will
be pushing the X3 masts to use with the Combat
Wave. The X3 is a stronger mast, I’ve
had one for 3 months whilst in Maui and have
yet to break it : that’s impressive! |

|
| Q: |
What boards have you used with
it? |
| |
|
| A: |
Just my custom Hookipa boards which are
75 and 70 litres. |
| |
|
| Q: |
How do you rig it? |
| |
|
| A: |
I set it on a X9 400 with 10cm extension
and one more cm of outhaul than the sail
instructions suggest. |

|
| Q: |
What is the sail like over powered
and under powered? |
| |
|
| A: |
It is good over powered. The Core was
a little backhanded in super windy conditions
but the Combat twists off a lot more. I’ve
never used it under powered other than
pumping out at Hookipa and it got me out
the back!

| Q: |
Any other comments? |
| |
|
| A: |
This testing of this sail was very comprehensive.
There were seven different types of combat
wave sail from A to G to test before they
choose the best one. I was involved with
the second part of testing once they had
got the basic shape. Neilpryde wanted me
to be involved as they want me to use them
at all competitions so I had to like them! |
