Phil Horrocks. Right Place. Right time.

In places that have wind in great quantities it can often be a tough call to find waves with quality.. it’s all about being in the right place at the right time…

Too many years of experience under my belt, observing what surrounds and taking in every little last bit of data has turned me into a super computer on cape wind and waves, you recognise little signs here and there that spot X might be going off even though Y has a killer windguru forecast…

It’s not all observation, i check a myriad of forecasts and correlate the lot into a call.. it manifests itself into a gut feeling and this was one of those days!

Cape point is one of the most beautiful windsurf spots in the world.. but on the wrong tide and wind a few degrees out it can frustrate big time.

I called the late session on this occasion and it was one of those epic sessions where it just gets better and better as the day goes on. As i arrived everyone was coming in complaining the wind was funky the waves were messy, a few pro’s were over it, heading elsewhere, i didn’t do much to persuade them to stay, i knew it was only getting better and the less people the better..

When the tide drops low enough the sandbar kicks up possibly the best windsurfing wave in cape town.

As the sun gets lower the wind tends to bend more offshore, clean up the waves and the sunlight shining on this precious protected coastline makes it more beautiful than ever..

Just me and one other guy out…

Sometimes you don’t want a day to end……. this was one…. definitely in the right place at the right time…
