When freestyler's grow up - Andy Chambers and Colin Dixon

…they reach for the freeride boards, apparently. Maybe it’s something about knocking on for 30, those contortions must eventually begin to hurt? But, joking aside, there’s nothing tame about this particular freeride session. Jay Haysey from Globalshots photography reports from an early season storm that hit the bay of Vassiliki.

Myself, Colin and Bubble had been talking for weeks about getting some freeride shots that were a bit different from the norm, so when we saw the forecast for a lot of cloud and some strong offshore winds in late April, the scene was set! Surprisingly an old Greek oil tanker had just anchored up outside the bay of Vassiliki, so the JP / NeilPryde boys Colin ‘Whippy’ Dixon and Andy ‘Bubble’ Chambers decided to put on a little show for the oil workers! Fair play to the boys as the wind was insane with either offshore gusts of 40 knots blowing them off the water or lulls of nothing at all. It was a pretty intense shoot trying to get as close to the tanker as possible for the perfect timed jump. Not getting blown downwind into the boat was a lot of hard work, but I think we captured it quite well.

Enjoy the shots – Jay

Colin says:
To be fair I was pretty upset when Jay got me and Bubble to go out in gusting 40-knot offshore winds. I opted for a 7.2, which was a massive mistake and blasted me off the water at least four times. But it was good fun, if pretty scary seeing Bubble nearly crashing into the boat. A great experience and it shows the dedication we have to help Jay at Globalshots get the pictures he wants.

Bubble says:
I had a really good time sailing as close to the boat as I could get. There was one really scary moment where Jay asked me to jump as I went past the front of the tanker, and I got lifted by a massive offshore gust and thought I was going to slam into the boat! It was cool having the guys on board watching what we were doing, and what looked like not much fun actually turned out to be really good.
