SWA: Spring So Far…

Event: “Bristol Budget Event” (non-SWA series event)

Event: Bristol Budget Event – “Cheap as Chips”
Host: Bristol Uni
When: 19-20th Feb
Where: Axbridge Reservoir

Wind: Gentle breeze all weekend. Force 2-3 depending on where you were on the lake!

Sat action: Beginner tuition from the infamous double act Matt Chancellor and George Payne (Cardiff). Plus intermediate tuition from the Bristol Uni lot. Taxi service in the form of rescue boats across the lake to deliver the advanced to the windy areas. Lots of Naish and Starboard/Tushingham demo kit to try out.

Sat light wind alternative: Jelly wrestling. No one seemed to know what the rules were but as jelly flew, accompanied by tunes of Baywatch and Busted blasting across the tannoy system, Axbridge was rocked like never before!

PARTY Theme: Little Britain and Regional Stereotypes

PARTY location: Double party event: Friday night at the Lizard Lounge, Saturday night at Wedgies, Park Street.

PARTY rating: The Saturday night party had loads to live up to but did not disappoint as students dressed up in outfits ranging from 'The only gay in the village' to 'Ladies' for the 'Little Britain and Regional Stereotypes' theme.  Another night of carnage ended in pole dancing with real-life Bristolian Vicky Pollards joining in. By the end of the night it was impossible to tell the difference between those in costume and some of the locals in their normal wear that dared to enter the classy establishment of our party.

Sun action: Perfect conditions for a light wind freestyle comp, won by Chris (Cambridge Uni) and a chance for everyone that wanted to brave the February waters one last time before they headed home from a fantastic, if not slightly different, event.

Event Sponsors: Naish and Starboard/Tushingham

Event: Attack of the Northern Monkey

Event: Attack of the Northern Monkey
Host: Liverpool Uni
When: 11-13 Feb
Where: Crosby Marina

Wind: Awesome. Howling force 6 plus on Saturday. The blustery Northerly on Sunday brought snow!

Sat action: Slalom racing in all divisions as everyone braved the ever increasing winds throughout the day.
The advanced division was taken by Martin from Southampton Uni. Then an afternoon of free-sailing accompanied by the Crosby ‘Champion of Speed’ competition which extracted the cream of those testosterone filled sailors from each club eager to prove their manliness…and sail a speed board about as big as their arm! It was won by “Bigbob Joylove” (of course) who somehow persuaded Southampton Uni to take him on.

The party: Noah’s Ark

Party location: Food at ‘The Flute’, Party at ‘Norwegian Blue’.

Best fancy dress: Liability James and his giraffe costume and who could forget the woman in the Blue Tits costume.

Sun action: Young Darren Mitchell beat reigning freestyle champ Adam Cropper (from the SWA Team) in the freestyle comp. Many wary eyes out for this lad who becomes a student this September. Oh and lots of snow!!!

Event Sponsors: Xtremity, Surf-Tech, DaKine

Scouse joke: A scouser walked into the local job centre, marched straight up to the counter and said "Hi, gizza job".

The man behind the counter replied "Your timing is amazing. We've just got one in from a very wealthy man who wants a chauffeur/bodyguard for his nymphomaniac twin daughters. You'll have to drive around in a big black Mercedes and wear the uniform
provided. The hours are a bit long but the meals are provided. You also have to escort the young ladies on their overseas holidays. The Salary package is £200,000 a year".

The Scouser said "You're bullsh*tting me!"
The man behind the counter said "Well you started it!"
