Maui This, Maui That

I...LOVE...Maui!

Maui has been going off this February/March. We have seen some of the best surfing and windsurfing conditions anyone can remember! In fact, I am just sitting down for 10 minutes to write this before heading out the door again to surf in beautiful conditions at Lanes (just next door to Hookipa) with a light offshore breeze and solid 5 foot waves!

"It was great that all the Brits were out there ripping it up with the best of them!"

Yesterday we had one of the best Kona Wind days at Lanes I can remember. It was a solid 8 feet with 10 foot sets coming through from time to time. There were only about 8 sailors on the water: Jason Polakow, Robby Naish, Francisco Goya and Anders Bringdal were ripping it up joined by myself, Ross Williams, John Skye and Tristan Boxford! It was great that all the Brits were out there ripping it up with the best of them! You can see from the photos I have sent in that it was really an epic day!

Other than that, I have sailed at least three or four times a week since I got back from the Boat Show at the end of January and surfed pretty much every day I didn’t sail. I can only think of one day when I have not been in the water at all and that was when I had to clean the whole house all day because Mum and Dad were arriving!

Jaws Wipeouts

We had a couple of sessions at Jaws when I first got back in January, but nothing as big as the December 15th swell. Ross and I got some great lefts there and we both took a couple of beatings! Ross managed to lose both our boards in two consecutive waves, so I made him clamber over the rocks through the mast high shore break to get them. Luckily he came back out unscathed and the boards were pretty much in one piece so we could carry on surfing!

"I’ve been Super X training with Kevin (Pritchard). He’s fast and learning planing spocks far too quickly for my liking."

Pritchard is flying

I have had a couple of days Super X training with Kevin Pritchard. He is really fast and is learning planning spocks and quick forwards far too quickly for my liking! He is going to be someone to look out for up at the top of that discipline this year.

"Ross and I got some great lefts at Jaws but we both took a couple of beatings as well!

Well that is about it and I am itching to get back out on the water and get a few more days training before the start of the Hawaii Pro. So until next month, good bye!!
