The De Blaby Files

How many hours sailing over the last month:
It has not been very windy this month, but we have had two good days at Wittering and one at Chichester Lake.  I have only windsurfed for about 6 hours this month and everyone is moaning down here that it’s not been windy. I’ve practised a couple of things in the garden but it’s not the same!

Greatest wind speed sailed in: The best we’ve had this month is 15-17 knots with plenty of 10 knots or less - I need a bigger sail.

Highlight of the last month:  Probably the best day was actually in the evening on a Saturday night when I sailed with Dad for an hour or two. It was really warm and sunny with about 15 knots and not many people out apart from James at 2XS who was practising some cool freestyle moves. The only thing was that it was low tide when we finished which meant it took forever to walk back to the car, especially as Dad now makes me carry my own kit!

What can you do that you couldn't 4 weeks ago: I can do a bit more freestyle as we have had lots of light winds to practice in.  Dad has also been helping me understand weather maps on the internet. We use a website called www.theyr.net, which is really cool even if the wind is always predicted to be on a week day.

Goal for JULY: It is the same as last month: to do deeper beach starts and then water starts. I just need more wind!

Dad has got some holiday coming up and he has promised to take me and my brother Harry windsurfing everyday.  I have got lots of things to practise so I hope I have lots to tell you next month. Also Simon Bornhoft is going to give me some coaching during July, which I am really looking forward to.  The other thing is that JP are bringing out a new 84 litre Young Gun and I have been promised the first one in the country. It comes out in August and I cannot wait to try it out on the water.
