Jeremy
Clarkson takes on windsurfing!
Why was Jeremy Clarkson learning
to windsurf in the pouring rain on
a tiny gravel pit outside of London?
Well unfortunately or maybe fortunately,
Clarkson has not decided to leave
his media career behind to take up
professional windsurfing.
It’s a long winded story
but here’s the shortest version
of it.
BMW have just launched their X3,
a sporty estate looking vehicle.
The BMW advertising campaign shows
men in their forties, doing extreme
sports, looking cool and driving
the X3.
Realizing that men who can afford this car are more likely to be working 12 hour
days in the city than surfing and snowboarding their lives away, Clarkson and
the Top Gear producers decided to take ‘the mickey’ out of the X3
driver!
So in front of the X3 and its rivals
from the likes of Toyota and Mercedes,
Clarkson attempted to do an “extreme” sport
just outside the city.
Hence, poor Mark Hosegood from
Team Naish had the job of trying
to teach Jeremy the rudiments of
our sport on a Cotswolds gravel
pit.
To see the full hilarious results,
watch Top Gear on BBC2 on Sunday
1st August.

Kitesurfing
Straps
It’s a surprise that the anatomically,
ergonomic designed kiting straps
have not made their way onto windsurfing
boards before now. However it looks
like it could be becoming a trend
on freestyle boards, where quite
a lot of ‘twisting’ pressure
is put on the good old standard strap.
Over the last year we have had the
chance to try out kitesurfing straps
on a variety of boards and so far
we have the following comments to
make:
1. On a wave board:
not so good, you can’t wedge
your feet in far enough for wave
riding or curl your toes up for jumping.
2. Freestyle board:
good, comfortable and provides a
secure attachment to the board, also
less harsh on the top of your foot
when twisting in the straps during
aerial manoeuvres.
3. Cruising on a widestyle
board: not bad, nice and
comfortable, especially in bare
feet.
4. Proper blasting/speed
sailing: not so good as
you need to be able to curl your
toes up around the straps to lock
down and the kiting straps seem
to be too wide.
Have you tried kitesurfing straps
on a windsurf board? Let us know
your thoughts.

Sneak preview
of 2005 Neilpryde Zone

Video:
Following the release of the new Neilpryde
Combat, speculation is already growing
about the new 2005 Neilpryde Zone.
The sail will not be released until later
this year but we have heard rumors that
it will be available in the same sizes
as last year: 3.3, 3.7, 4.1, 4.4, 4.7,
5.0, 5.3, 5.7
Chief tester Jimmy Diaz had this to say
about the 2005 Zone on the Neilpryde forum: “They
will have a very similar feel to the Cores
in terms of forgiveness and softness, but
with the added stability and response normally
associated with the Zones.”
The picture and video should give you
an idea of what they may look like! |
