Donkey of the month:
Nik Baker

Nik Baker has passport issues!

Oh the tedious life of a Professional Windsurfer. Having flown back from Maui to compete in Britain’s Most Extreme on the Isle of White, Nik Baker was then on his way to Cape Town to represent North/Mistral at the German Surf Magazine test and also to meet his sponsors.
However things didn’t quite go to plan. Nik explains…

“I was catching the flight from Heathrow and was waiting in line for quite a while. Eventually I got to the front, and as we were sorting out my seat position the check-in guy looked through my passport to find not ONE fully clean page. There was one page that had a very small line of typing along the top but this was no good.

“So? I travel a lot, what’s the problem?” I said. Well apparently there is a new rule in the last 6 to 8 months that you have to have ONE clean page in your passport to get into South Africa. If they had over looked it at the UK end, I would get to customs in Cape Town who would put me straight back on the plane and fine the airline as well. He went to his supervisor to try but they would not let me go so that was that.

My Dad, who had fought M25 evening rush hour to get home to Brighton, was just at the A24 turning when he got my call to come back and get me. He was not a happy man!

I then had to call the Passport Office in central London to make an appointment to get a new passport for the next day. A 10 minute chat, a four hour wait, whilst my wife went shopping, and heh presto I got myself a new passport. My Dad then took me to Heathrow for the second time in 24 hours and I finally boarded the flight to Cape Town. So anyone flying to South Africa in the next few months, go and check your passport NOW!”

We agree with you Nik, nothing like forward planning, you donkey!

Ocean Motion makes windsurfing a truly ALL ROUND YEAR sport

One of the most successful windsurf clubs on the south coast is encouraging all its members NOT to put their windsurf kit in the garage and to face the cold winter winds with the help and support of fellow sailors.

Weekend locations will be chosen according to wind direction, wind strength, temperature and the personal preferences of those members wishing to sail.

So if you’re keen to sail through the winter on the south coast in the company of other mad windsurfers then get your neoprene hat and booties out and join OMWC.

For more information log on to www.omwc.org.uk or call James Legg on 020 84411685

In addition, OMWC runs fortnightly cycle rides during the winter season. So if you’re not quite ready for Frozen Motion why not just come along for the (cycle) ride?

Spocking all the way to Dixons

We have spent many hours in front of the TV with a digital camera waiting for the NEW Dixons Superstore ad to come on so we can prove to you that Ben Proffitt is windsurfing in the background attempting a switch stance grubby! However, you’ll just have to believe us and watch out for it yourselves. Honest!
