Finian & Karen get the speed records on F2!!!

Finian Maynard has broken his own World Speed Record with a run of 48.7 knots. Karen Jaggi got the Women’s World Title with a run of 41.2 knots.

After the Port St.Louis contest, they went to ‘The Ditch’ just up the road and broke both records.

Mini-interview with Finian

Q:What sails were you using?
A: I was using a 5.0m Production Naish Stealth sail new out of the bag!

Q:Why so much faster than last time?
A: I was more focused on the task in hand and the run was good. The wind was more consistent than the last record breaking Mistral day.

Q:What size was your board?
A: I was on a 35cm wide board by 214 cm long.

Q:How windy was it?
A: For Karen, 35-40knots. For me, 40-45knots.

Q: Were Bjorn Dunkerbeck & Antoine Albeau watching?
A:No. They were in Port St.Louis finishing up the contest there. I was performing the magical trick of being in two places at once!

Mini-interview with Karen

Q:What board were you on?
A: A 33cm Speedneedle shaped by Patrik Diethelm. The F2 Missile production board would have been way too big for my size and weight.

Q:What sail sizes were you using?
A: In my record run I was on a 4.6 Arrows “Maxx”. Willy (Blaauw) made me some special sails with a very flat profile, skinny masts and a wide mast sleeve: real record sails. They should come out in production pretty soon.

Q:Why so much faster than last time?
A: It was my second time on the canal; that made it easier. Then I changed my sails which added a knot. Also the conditions were more “controllable” (less wind than last time).
But most importantly I had the perfect preparation to the event. Patrik Diethelm came down to help me and as soon as I saw the forecast I left Port St. Louis. I sailed two sessions on the canal on the Saturday which were both filmed by Patrik. With that footage we then set everything perfect: board trim, sail trim and most importantly my sailing position. The record run was my second run on the Sunday at The Ditch.

Boardseeker get exclusive preview of the Tropical Energy DVD

PHOTO: Eric Aeder

Think: Reality TV meets the best windsurfers in the world and you have got an explosive mix of action on and off the water that makes this DVD one of the funniest, watchable reality shows ever. You don’t even have to be into windsurfing to watch this as you join Jason Polakow, Levi Siver, Keith Teboul, Robby Swift, Kevin Pritchard, Kauli Seadi, Babtiste Gossein and Jason Prior battle it out to be the wave sailing Tropical Energy Champion at the isolated spot of Baja, Mexico.

PHOTO: Eric Aeder

The funniest bits for us were: Polakow struggling to cope living in the tent with the rest of the boys, Jason Prior’s constant banter and Kauli’s love of a certain magazine. Oh, and the action on the water is awesome.

Full review next month when it becomes available in Europe.

Boardseeker Babe

This month we have for you the gorgeous Trisha Boxford. See how she compares with our other Babes here!
