Argentina Freestyle Event

Report by Nicole Coquelet:

Where:
Cuesta del Viento (Slope of the wind), San Juan , Argentina
When:
23/ 24 April 2005

Our season is just finishing over in South America and the last event happened in the waters of Cuesta del Viento.
In a relaxing environment, the best windsurfers in Argentina, as well as some Chileans and Belgians met to give end to the season with a slalom and freestyle contest. As always the

wind was our better ally, though a bit cold and less sunny than usual. The lake is in the northwest side of the country at 1500 meters of altitude, and has an average of 300 windy days between 20 and 40 knots with the best time being from August to May.

In the slalom contest they had to do a figure of eight around two buoys four times. But the event leader, Lucas Marc, went into the beach after the third circuit believing that he had finished. Other competitors followed him going back to the beach whilst others continued the race. But Lucas, realizing his mistake, got out there again and recovered the first place!
In addition, we had the freestyle competitors show the best of their skills. They delighted us with incredible freestyle manoeuvres. Stratospheric forwards, shuv-its, spocks (one handed and clew first), flakas, grubbies, table tops, willy skippers, 360° and many others.

On this side of the world, we have now finished an incredible season with freestyle & slalom events in Argentina and waves events in Chile.

Now, the only thing we wait for are the cold winter sessions! Enjoy your season.
