One storm, 12 chosen riders, 9 countries. Let us explain…

One sailor is chosen to represent the following countries: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Sweden, UK. Then between 1 SEPTEMBER to 15 NOVEMBER the WAIT is on for the biggest Atlantic storm to hit Northern Europe.

When it does, Red Bull send out a camera crew to the local beach of the chosen sailor and just get filming. All the footage will be available on a DVD come December.

So who will the lucky sailors be? Well that’s up to YOU. Sailors have nominated themselves on the Red Bull Storm Chase website and anyone can vote for them (from 7th – 31 July) to represent their respective country.

The first two weeks of August sees the final voting round ready for kick off on 1st September.

Sailors already registrared include Phil Horrocks, John Skye, Ben Proffitt, John Hibbard and Robby Swift for the UK, Peter Bird for Scotland, Oisin Van Gelderen and Timo Mullen for Ireland, Lars Petersen for Denmark and over 80 riders from Germany including Stefii Wahl, Andre Paskowski, Rik Fiddicke and a whole host of amateurs.

Laird Hamilton does London to Paris for Charity

Yes, it’s been done before but not on a bike and a paddle board!

The Stats:

All this was done to raise money and profile for the non-profit film Beautiful Son which is about healing autism and will be out this autumn. It is directed by Don King, who has filmed Laird on several of his big wave films, but who also has an autistic son – Beau.
