Valerie Ghibaudo (nee La Fusee) began racing 15 years ago at the start of the 1990’s. In those days she was racing against the likes of Jutta Muller and Brit Dunkerbeck. |

Now, after five years out to have a baby, she is back and competing in the PWA Slalom as well as doing the ISA Speed events. We caught up with her in Fuerte.
What was your first PWA competition?
My first international competition was in Tarifa and I won the slalom on a production board. The girls I was competing against were Jutta Muller, Natalie Lelievre, Sandra Gublelman and around 15 others. I always placed best at Slalom events.
How has the tour changed from then to now?
The Tour is not the same these days and honestly I preferred it before. There are fewer girls and those that are left are mostly younger girls with less experience so I see less performance than when I first competed (apart from Karin Jaggi). Before the PWA was a much bigger competition for the Ladies, in slalom at least.
What is your main ambition within windsurfing?
My ambition is to “live the (windsurfing) life”! I want to get the speed record and keep the
title for a few years. I will also do the PWA Slalom 42 Tour for the next few years.
And outside of windsurfing?
My ambition is to be a good mother to my daughter who is now 5 years old. My life is for her. Plus don’t forget, I also have a normal job in an office!
Finally, who inspires you?
My father.
Valerie is sponsored by:

along with T1, DaKine, Sunbycle, Gazoil and Zonképaï.
We look forward to seeing more of her in the next few seasons.
