Picture the scene: We are filming the tandem movie. All the cameraman needs is for the brand new Plas Menai owned tandem to gybe as close as possible to the old F2 beast within a resonable distance to the camera. The camera is rolling, the Chief Instructor of the Centre is watching from the shore, what could possible go wrong? (Note: watch the reaction of the other tandem sailors)

If you have any spectacular wipe-outs caught on camera that are worthy of public viewing, please let us know about them: wipeouts@boardseeker.com

Exclusive Indonesian Footage

We bring you exclusive footage of Scott McKercher riding Lakey Pipe on Sambawa.

PHOTO: PWA/Carter

How often does this location work for a windsurfer?

Scott: From August to October I think.

How difficult is the wave to ride?

Scott: I love it as it is like home (in Oz) but just cleaner and more perfect with a predictable place where the lip is going to throw. Predictably heavy though too. It sucks pretty quickly so if your timing is out, you'll pay pretty quickly!

Have you had any knarly wipeouts at this spot?

Scott: Not really but it's kinda heavy. Low tide gets pretty shelfy and can lead to big swims due to the currents.

What's the best thing about windsurfing in Indonesia?

Scott: Warm water, perfect waves, insane food and it's not very far from Western Oz.

What's the worst thing?

Scott: You have to fly in Indo planes. It’s the only time I get scared flying. Also too many surfers which can be a bit of a mare.

Twin Fins, Tri Fins...

Twin-fin and tri-fin wave-boards are nothing new, with various companies over the years like Witchcraft in Fuerteventura extolling their virtues for wavesailing.

Boujmaa testing twin vs tri-fin options

However, when Maui’s most respected board brand, Quattro International, makes a board for Kauli Seadi, the world sits up and takes notice.

Since seeing Kauli’s incredible wave-riding style at the Cabo Verde PWA wave event, (which was accredited in part to Kauli’s new twin fin board) it seems the world and his wife have been out to find out what the possibilities of this set up can offer. Boardseeker’s resident Maui correspondent have reported to us that the likes of Jason Polakow, Levi Siver and Scott McKercher have been spotted testing twin fin boards daily, while Boujamma Guillol (pictured) has been sailing every variation of fin setup.

The Tri-Fin

Before you go and add a handful of fins to your board, from the early reports we have heard the general consensus is that these boards work well for lighter sailors, with heavier sailors complaining of a lack of ‘drive’ from the board compared to a single fin. No doubt though with the talent that is testing them, pretty soon we will see more boards with a lot more fins on the windsurfing market.
