Happy Birthday! Robby turns 21!

Sorry Boardseeker readers for the short length of this month’s ramblings. I turned 21 on the 11th April which meant a whole weekend of partying with my friends and family! As I am writing this, my Dad is shouting at me to come and help clear the whole house up before they leave tonight for home. But I will do my best to fill you in on my past few weeks!

Hawaii Pro

I was sad to do so badly at the event of course. I have spent the whole winter out here training for that event and I really wanted to do well as it is kind of my home beach now!

I guess that all that pressure I put on myself didn’t help me too much as I was so nervous that I was sailing like crap! The first two heats I sailed, Ross said he doesn’t think he has ever seen me sail that bad at Hookipa! After that I sailed well against Tony Garcia and thought I was going to start coming back through a few heats but unfortunately the next heat I had against Cyril Moussilmani had absolutely no wind at all and I couldn’t even get two waves in the 15 minute heat. I was absolutely broken as I really felt like they should have cancelled the heat, but there is nothing you can do in a situation like that and I just had to de-rig my stuff and go down the beach to start working hard on my Super X in time for Leucate!

Super X

I have been down at Camp One training for Super X every afternoon since the event for the first Super X in France. It is a hard discipline to train for as you have to sail so overpowered and it is really frustrating crashing so many spocks which I have been able to do since I was about 13!

I think that I am improving though, and it is good to have someone to train with! Josh is trying really hard and is a great example to anyone who wants to learn spocks! He couldn’t do them at all a couple of weeks ago and now he is getting them quite well. He did three in a row fully planing the other day!

I hear that Micah Buzianis is going to give it a go this year, the Pritchards have been training hard, and I am sure that the competition will be much harder this year! We will just have to wait and see!

He looks like he's sailing well to us!

A dejected Robby leaves Hooikpa and goes Super X training instead

Robby slashes away, but it wasn't enough

Collecting those Airmiles

I am flying out or Maui on the 14th April, land in San Francisco on the 15th, then London on the 16th. I have one day at home (in Kent ) to pack up all my stuff and then I leave for Leucate on the 18th. I reckon I should be fairly tired by then!
I have to come back to Maui straight after the event in France . We have the JP product photo shoot between then and Bonaire which is always fairly hectic. I fly straight to Bonaire from Maui for the PWA Freestyle event and then I will be coming back again for about three days.

After that, I will be staying in Europe for the summer. I think that I will spend most of my time in Pozo training port tack, but I will definitely come home whenever I can! It will be fun to get a few days sailing down at Hove with all the boys!
