Technique DVD covering the carve gybe in absolute detail using Guy Cribb’s many coaching techniques developed through his clinics. He goes through gybe basics as well as light wind, high wind and advanced gybing, concentrating mainly on the step gybe. Guy also introduces you to his Intuition Core Skills.
Who edited it?
What we liked about it
Very clear, very visual, very useful! You see Guy Cribb gybing so many times it gets ingrained into your memory which is exactly the point. The seven core skills are explained in detail and then little icons appear throughout the DVD as they apply. The use of his ‘learning to gybe’ clients is very useful as you see all sorts of mistakes and the progressions used to fix them. The graphics are clean and consistent so you know exactly which chapter and section you are in as there are plenty. The aim is to allow people to refer to exactly the section of the gybe that they need help with as they progress through the manouvre.
What we didn’t like
The cheesy names given to a few of the Core Skills, like the Boom Shaka (although they probably float some peoples boats)!
Chick action .v. Bloke action
It’s mainly Guy doing his thang, but you do get a few lady sailors wrestling with their rigs on that last, annoying part of the carve gybe.
The 4 Most Common Mistakes chapter – we bet it will be the first chapter you visit on the DVD.
What is missing?
You really can’t say much more about the gybe than Guy has done here. If you want something other than gybe technique, you may have to wait for his next DVD.
It’s all background music which is just about ok. However, the exception is the excellent track by Silvermaker. ‘Rock Star’, which appears on the Boardseeker DVD as well, and you will find it here on the chapter about Intuition Clinics.
