This place continues to deliver for the PWA and boy are these guys happy about it!

It’s such a great start to the season delivering awesome photos, crazy footage and showing off the ‘extreme’ side of the sport to the passing media.

Ok, this year the waves weren’t as big (nearly mast high in the sets) and the wind was a little light but it still looked amazing at Ponta Preta and we got to see another Cape Verdian beach, Little Ho’okipa where the cross onshore, small waves created goita heaven. On the downside, they didn’t quite get through the double elimination so those top 4 boys who ripped at down-the-line Preta (Swift, Polakow, Angulo & Seadi) didn’t get tested in the completely different conditions at Little Ho’okipa on day three of the event.

Waiting in the wings were Thomas Traversa, Alex Mussolini and then Marcilio Browne & Kai Kathchadorian who had battled through after losing in round one of the single elimination. They were ready, tricks up their sleeve, highly tuned for the cross-onshore sets, when it was all called off. Some say slightly premature, others say the conditions just weren’t world class anymore and with the 6 days of contest left, the judges decided to finish for the day. But the wind never returned and the top 4 single elimination sailors became the top 4 event winners. However, and this is a big however, we very much doubt it would have knocked Kauli Seadi off the top spot – he continues to raise his game above the rest and he deservedly took the first PWA wave title of the season.
