The hype has been around for a while now but we are about to see the launch of Twin Fin wave boards from most of the main manufacturers. Here’s a quick preview of what will be on offer if you are after a Twin Fin in 2009. We will be testing these boards at the end of July and we hope to have the test results by the end of August.

Brand: JP
Name: Twinser Wave
Range: 68/76/84 with a lighter Pro edition
Designer: Werner Gnigler
Main testers: Kauli Seadi

Why have you introduced a twin fin
into your range?

During 2007 it became quite clear to us that we will need a Twin Fin board in our line as after Kauli's performance in Capo Verde almost the whole PWA fleet switched to Twin Fin designs. We already tried to get Kauli on JP in 2004 but could not work out a deal with him. We started talking to him again second half of 2007 mainly also because we wanted him to develope a Twinser line with us - it was just the obvious thing to do. He and his personality fit perfect to JP and with the whole Twin Fin movement it was absolutely perfect timing.

Werner Gnigler was actually rather secptical at the beginning as he thought it was just another fashion trend amongst the World Cup riders but he quickly changed his mind after starting to work with Kauli and he is today the biggest fan of our new Twinser line. He says: "With those boards everybody will become a better wave sailor as you will be able to work the waves much harder and your turns will become tighter than ever before”.

Brand: Fanatic
Name: NewWave Twin Team Edition
Range: 72/78/84
Designer: Sebastian Wenzel
Testers: Victor Fernandez & Klass Voget

Why have you introduced a twin fin
into your range?

Karen Gertenbach: We have been working on the Twinser concept for over a year and found that a new type of wavesailing is possible on these shapes – riding closer to the breaking wave, shorter, sharper turns and a more compact feel, this is for sure pushing windsurfing closer towards the surfing sport and of course positive changes are always good in a maturing sport like windsurfing

Brand: RRD
Name: Wave Twin
Range: 66/74/84/90/99
Designer: Roberto Ricci
Testers: Alex Mussolini & Kevin Mevissen plus an exciting possible addition very soon!

Why have you introduced a twin fin
into your range?

RRD: The reasons that pushed Roberto Ricci to introduce a brand new TwinFin Wave line on his 2009 RRD collection are many: what’s happening on the higher levels of the World Cup, the push of new young and radical team riders and the unforgettable roots in twinzer experience mixed to the notorious RRD attitude for innovation in design and technology.

Brand: Quatro
Name: Wave Twin Fin
Range: 68/75/81
Designer: Keith Teboul
Testers: Keith Teboul, Levi Siver

Why have you introduced a twin fin
into your range?

Keith: I have worked a lot on the TwinFin concept. In order to offer sailors the best out of it, we designed a full TwinFin range with adapted shape and rocker for all around conditions.

Brand: Tabou
Name: Da Curve Team Edition
Range: 67/73/79/85
Designer: Fabien Vollenweider
Testers: Thomas Traversa, Ross Williams, Matt Pritchard

Why have you introduced a twin fin
into your range?

Fabien: I  shaped twin fin boards since 1992 or 93 (sorry my memory not so good in my old age) and I was the one who shaped the  Bic Saxo 253 and Saxo 263 with the twin option by then. Now I think these boards really suit the new style and the next generation of sailors like Thomas Traversa. It's logical to bring back twins with Tabou.
