From Ray to reality. The speed course located at Southend-On-Sea is promising a lot at these early stages of competition to break the world speed records currently in place.
The world's best speed sailor's congregated last weekend to mark the first day where already, Finian Maynard came within a hair's breath of the Word Production record reaching a speed of 44.32 knots.

The wind was strong and the flat water channel on the inside of the sand bank proved the perfect low resistance surface. One major factor that didn't go the way of the competitors was the angle of the wind that was not allowing the required broad reach. This means an exciting start to competition will likely get very much more intense as soon as the correct wind direction arrives.
