The Coast of Normandy
It’s not the first place you think of when you want to go on a windsurfing trip, however Normandy has plenty of beaches exposed to the Atlantic ocean and the ‘wind funnelling’ English Channel. Check out this full on action video courtesy of local riders; the Mendez Crew!
Over to local boy Papa Franky.....
Normandy: The Spots
Veulettes sur mer: This beach is east of Le Harve and right opposite Eastbourne in the UK! The waves come 24hrs after a west or north-west wind .There is a lot of reefs and there is a big shore break at high tide onto a pebble beach. The best waves occur at mid tide.
Best wind: West/North-west to West/South-west.
Best waves: With a west and west/south-west wind you get down-the-line. North-west and west/north-west give onshore conditions.
Siouville/Sciotot: These two beaches are fairly close to each other, just north of Saint Malo and opposite the islands of Jersey and Guernsey. Both these places are sandy beach breaks. Frequently the waves come with a south-west or westerly wind.
Best wind: A south wind and big waves. This gives down-the-line, ideal for surfing as well. However, when the wind is south-east it is better to go to Sciotot where it is frequently stronger.
Best waves: These occur at the beginning of low tide for both locations, but Siouville is better if you are happen to be sailing around high tide.
