We caught up with Turkish slalom sailor and one of the fastest ladies in the world, Lena Erdil for a short chat on how her day went yesterday at the PWA World Cup in Alacati.

I think a couple of girls were on 110′s and 7.8′s and the guys were mostly on 8.6 the wind according to wind readings was between 11-20 knots, which is near enough the perfect range for slalom sailing. - Lena

Lena’s Top Tip for lighter weight sailors

For me the trick to go as fast as the bigger girls is to try and be on smaller kit, which in a ideal world should be quicker because you are personally better suited to that gear. It was working out good for me yesterday, and is especially good when the wind is gusty as I should be able to get through the lulls better.

It kind of goes against logic but if you take too big a sail you can’t hold all that power down and then whatever you can’t hold down acts as drag, which slows you down more.
