The Starboard iSonic is one of the fastest boards on the market, and is used by many of the top PWA racers. Boardseeker takes a closer look at the brand new version of this board, that has just been released... Will it be better than the much loved 2013 model?
iSonic – Let’s take a look at what the brochures say and try work out what they really mean…
“They are fast racing machines designed for the highest top speeds, the highest average speeds, the quickest accelerations with powerful overtaking abilities throughout a wide wind range.”
Translation: It’s fast, very fast.
“In a nutshell, for 2014, the 80 liters, 87, 90, 97 and 107 liters iSonics are fully upgraded with shorter, wider and slimmer shapes and new cut-aways/side-cut designs that make for a wider wind range than before, more control, better acceleration and higher top speed.”
This should mean that the board is better at both early planing and high wind control. But remember, this is a board for racers. If you want to go top speed, race, and have a high skill level this is for you. If you struggle with gybes or want an easy ride, you would be more suited to a board like the Carve.
