Yesterday was an intense “do or die” day.
The tricky conditions in the island, made the head judge decide in the last minute to run heats at Ponta Preta.

They finished the whole first round, advancing straight to round 3 a firing Yann Sorlut, the local Capeverdian Mitu Monteiro and Dioni Guadagnino, who after having taken a year off competing looks definitely on form and ready to cause some mayor damage (he took out young ripper Camille Juba, who tried to risk it all, ending on the rocks at least 3 times).

The second round was decisive. You needed to win to get through to the third round if you wanted to fight for a place in the main event.
From the 16 guys in this 2nd round, the winners were: Francisco Porcelli, Djo Silva, Jules Denel, Titik Lopes, Jean-Sebastian Lange, Levi Lenz, Jake Miller and Ondrej Erban.

The most important round, the 3rd, saw Kai Katchadorian taking the first ticket to the main event over Ondrej Erban.
Jean-Baptiste Caste won the 2nd heat over local Cjo Silva.
The last heat of the day was Porcelli against Bruch. Both guys worked hard on the really difficult small waves. Porcelli got the win, as he got the best set of the heat.

Still 5 more heats to run from this 3rd round, to know which guys will joing Katchadourian, Porcelli and Caste in the main event.

Thanks Josh Angulo for the update.
