Right now the sail and board repair shop are in great business. There is not one make of sail that has not been seemingly written off, only to be repaired and back on the water again. Phil Horrocks has a regular amount of kit on a cycle from the sail repair shop. Phil’s wave sailing this year has gone to another level, always chasing the biggest waves and putting in the air time. His freestyle seems to have taken a back seat. Also ripping both in the waves and kit is Jamie Hancock, he is looking more fluid than ever and in the lighter conditions is going to be a real threat for the UK title this year. Clyde Waite has also been testing his kit (or trashing) to the maximum. We think he has gone through every item in some capacity, several
beatings have taken their toll on him and the kit, just to rub salt into the wound, his only surviving bit, the harness line
snapped mid one handed forward. Pat Heath has also managed to total a sail, but not in your regular way, more on that in a bit.

Speaking of general injuries, in the last week, Chris Murray managed to dislocate his big toe (his first week), Simon Hurrey has been diagnosed with stress fractures in his Fibula. The Doctor told him to rest for 6 weeks, then gave him super strong green pain killers suspecting that he might ignore him. It’s quite easy to see how this might have happened, Simon’s trademark move, the Shaka, is not so forgiving on lower legs and he does about a million a day. Ben Proffit has been off the water for four days, a twisted pelvis caused by landing some seriously high backloops has seen him under the
manipulation of the Chiropracters, with several injections in the butt (is this normal we ask). His first session back on the water required him to do some one footed backies for this years Jump Off. Nothing like easing yourself back into the action. Ben also says he hurt his nail yesterday.

Anyway back to Pat’s Rig. Pat was filming Lucy Robson’s endless Vulcan quest, when a massive gust lifted his kit off the beach, only stopped by none other than Billy Short’s ead! Having knocked him out it went onto the jetting ripping every possible panel, leaving Bill dazed, confused and talking some sense!!!!

Then there was Joe and Barnsey’s BBQ, Wildwind’s centre manager and Flying Fish’s Op’s manager respectively. It started fairly normal until they got the guitars out. Think Tenacious D, crossed with Playschool, the Live Lounge and David Brent. It was hilarious, it would be worth going on one of their Holiday’s just for the entertainment.

The scene is starting to get a lot bigger as more people turn up. From the UK Fred Willis, Katie, Steve and Lisa. The Italians, Matteo Guazzoni, Phillipo Buratti, Michele Franciosi are also here, styling it on the lake with some complicated freestyle stuff. Whilst there has been plenty of wind the Swell is only just turning up, with sails, boards and bodies repaired it should be another action packed week on the water. Hopefully we can tempt Simon Crowther into the water with his waterproof
camera housing…
