The European Freestyle Pro Tour, showed considerable success last year. After a close run to the final stages, Dutchman Kevin Mevissen took the final honours.
Simon Hurrey, one of the top UK\’s top freestylers sends us this report:
EFPT Tarifa 30th March – 2nd April
Despite the pessimistic forecast for the event, the first day of competition saw an abundance of action. In Gusty 5.3 – 6.0 conditions, the first ladder was almost completed. The wind stopped cooperating in the late afternoon leaving only 4 heats to be decided.
The usual talents are still in the running with standouts being Normen Gunzlein, Andre Paskowski, Jakub Kosmowski and Matteo Guazzoni . The standard in the heats was incredible with shakas, cana bravas and a whole host of new tricks being busted out in the choppy conditions.
I made it as far as equal 9th, getting knocked out by Normen. I sailed a solid heat with shakas, flakas and a variety of switch stance moves only for Normen to bust out a one-handed shaka flaka and a shaka Diablo, sealing his victory. He then went on to beat Antxon (whom many will remember from the Boat Show), the Canaries ripper.
I would have liked to get further, but If you’re going to get knocked out by anyone it might as well be by the current IFCA World Freestyle Champion…
With the wind a little dubious for the rest of the competition, we all have our fingers crossed for more action.
