Another busy news weekend for windsurfing. \’Top of the pops\’ has to be Philip Koster, after receiving yet another title, this time as the 2011 German Surf mag \’Surfer of the year\’ during the German \’boot\’ tradeshow on Saturday. So that is 1st place at all the PWA Wave events in 2011, PWA Wave World Champion, Surfer of the year for the German Action Sports Awards and now this. An average year then. This certainly deserves a video, yes it is German, but it is fresh and contains some great action, check it out.
The next biggest update comes from UMI, with their Bonaire editing competition. Old news for our facebook fans but still we doubt many of them have actually had the chance to watch all 36 videos and cast their votes. So kick back, \’grab a cuppa\’ and take your time to pick the best of the bunch on umipictures.com. Be sure to watch each and everyone to the end as there are a few pretty amazing surprises in there, including windsurfing equipment that just disappears mid body-drag by Taty and Kiri!
If you had ever thought about heading over to Ireland for a bit of wave sailing but perhaps considered it a bit too over your head, well think again as Chris \’Muzza\’ Murray will be running a clinic alongside Sam Ross on getting into waves, the next level in waves, jumping, riding, in fact it looks to cover almost every aspect. Check out the poster on the left for more on their Ireland tour.
This leads us perfectly to Timo Mullen, who recently sailed a port tack Marazion. Looks like one ramp after the other, no wonder he said it was similar to a port tack Camber Sands. Take a look at the mast-mount video below.
Heading further afield and Maui has been firing lately. PWA Freestyler and now on an intern at Hot Sails Maui HQ, Paul Zeper has been blogging about strong winds and new prototypes, with plenty of nice shots; both action and lifestyle.
A couple more videos and again another brief insight into the \’Camocim locals\’. A group made up largely of kids, who were left windsurfing kit by the likes of Andre Paskowski, Jose \’Gollito\’ Estredo, Bryan Metcalfe-Perez, Edvan de Souza and Loick Spicher have been pushing the level completely undercover. We have heard of these guys a few times lately and perhaps, with the right support, we may just see one or two of them on the PWA World Tour in the coming years.
With the London 2012 Olympics drawing ever nearer, it seems only fair to post a little something for the racers…
As well as this little news snippet – a great report on the IV Buzios International Regatta on jp-windsurfing.com.
Finally, with perhaps a little light wind downtime for some, it is the perfect opportunity to play around and tweak a few board settings, so here is a nice little how-to about setting your foot-straps from point-7.com.
