Essex kitesurfing club

After just visiting Southend on Sea I was lucky enough to score some great wind despite the dire forecast of the last couple of weeks.

Southend is in Essex which you may associate with boy racers, amusment arcades and some rowdiness, well you wouldn\’t be completely wrong, but if you let it put you off it would be a major shame for your kitesurfing.

After just spending a week in Southend it is a pretty cool place. You can\’t get bored and there is plenty to do and the surrounding area is really quirky. There are some pretty towns and some great restaurants and bars to chill out in the sunshine or there are some full on hectic clubs and bars if you want to have a good party!

If it\’s kitesurfing that you are after… and lets face it, it is! Then you need to head to southend and then shoebury, just a few minutes down the road. It is the mouth of the river thames and the bathing quality as tested by local authorities is good to excellent despite what you may otherwise be thinking. I took a few wipeouts and swallowed a fair bit and I would have to say that I agree.

Learning to kitesurf at Shoebury couldn\’t be much better unless you add tropical temperatures. The water is shallow for what seems like forever so you can be in waist deep water while learning, safe in the knowledge that you are niether out of your depths nor going to be dragged to out of your depth. If you wipeout then you have a soft landing and then you can stand straight back up again. The other bonus of the water being shallow is that it is also warmer. Not that i would recommend it but there was a kitesurfer out without a wetsuit last weekend. I had a short leg suit on and was warm! Can\’t be many places in the country where you can do that yet!

If that is not all sounding great then you should check out Essex kitesurfing club. They are a very competent and developed club. They have several instructors including Steve Davison. All the instructors are BKSA qualified, but Steve himself is currently under taking the necessary procedures to become and instructor of instructors!!! He knows what he is talking about and is a great person to point you in the right direction for what your kitesurfing needs are.

Essesx kitesurfing club are very social and meet up once a week in the evening plus there are always people down the beach ready to go kitesurfing what ever the day of the week.
