Welcome back to a fresh week of news here on Boardseeker. There has been plenty of action all over the world this weekend, so without further ado, here\’s a round up…

The second PWA Slalom event of the year has kicked off at Ulsan beach in Korea. So far, one elimination has been completed by both the men\’s and ladies\’ fleets with progress being made into the second. Some shock results have emerged from the men\’s first round, with defending World Champion and current tour leader Bjorn Dunkerbeck failing to make the winners\’ final and finishing up in 9th place. Taking his place on the podium is the relatively unheard of Turkish sailor and Starboard/Severne team mate Bora Kozanoglu.

Showing a brilliant turn of speed and a perfect start, Kozanoglu made the most of the conditions to open up a sizeable lead over French big gun Antoine Albeau. All was going well for TUR-11 until the final leg of the race where Albeau, suddenly and inexplicably, started closing the gap at an alarming rate. It later turned out that Kozanoglu had run through some sea grass, explaining his sudden loss of speed, but in the end he emerged victorious. Congratulations to the unsponsored Bora! Alongside Dunkerbeck, other big names not to make the final, or facing disqualification for premature starts, include Josh Angulo, Ben van der Steen, Cyril Moussilmani and Finian Maynard. Here is the video from Day Two…

The ladies\’ fleet also saw some upsets as current tour number one Karin Jaggi failed to make the winner\’s final. With World Champion Sarah-Quita Offringa absent, this was really Jaggi\’s chance to cement her place at the top, but a false start in the semis put her out of the running and left teh Swiss sailor in 12th place. Valérie Arrighetti won the previous elimination at the recent event in Italy, and she used Jaggi\’s absence in Korea to her advantage and put her stamp on the first elimination with a bullet in the winner\’s final.

It\’s certainly been an unexpected start to the event, who will come out on top in the end? Keep an eye on PWAWorldTour.com for the live ticker and our sister site Boards.co.uk for the latest updates from British racer Dan Ellis at the event site.

With so much great competition action on the go, it is sad to learn that windsurfing has been axed from the 2016 Olympic Games in favour of kitesurfing. No doubt you will have seen the various campaigns to contest the decision being spread around by social media over the weekend. “So many dreams crushed, jobs destroyed and years of training put to waste. A sport that is growing more than ever whilst being a true Olympic discipline, requiring physical fitness, tactics and dedication…” The good news is that the decision can still be overturned by the ISAF, so click HERE to sign the official petition. With over 8,000 people already signed up, make sure you share the online petition as much as possible to ensure the 25,000 mark is reached and our great sport remains in the Olympics.
