Round 4 of the PKRA World Tour in Cabarete –
Dominican Republic kicked off with a perfect 20 knots and sunny skies. There were approximately 50 entrants for the men and 14 for the women meaning that the men had to go through trials to take up the 32 places in the main event. Many of the men in the trials were Dominican riders and to be it fairly they are crazy! They have no sense of fear and throw out enormous kite loops and kite loops with handle passes. There were many crashes and many awesome landings. Going biggest and most impressive of the locals was Luciano Gonzalez (Takoon) and Alex Soto (Cabrinha) both having incredible style and moves that sent the crowds wild!!!
It took a total of 2.5hrs to complete the trials and it with the forecast looking a bit sketchy from Friday Eric Toeslider – race director decided to go ahead with the main event.
The first two rounds are complete and the usual Alvaro Onieva (Best) and Kevin Langeree (Naish) were riding very well. Aaron Hadlow (Flexifoil) was riding well although didn’t seem to have his usual speed and aggressiveness about him. He rode against Randy Hereman (F One) in the second round. Randy came 4th in
Belgium and is lost to Aaron there, but many said it should have been the final. Well this proved another tough heat for Aaron because it was a 2 – 1 decision by the judges. Etienne Lhote lost his form. He was pulling some big handle passes, but didn’t have the power that we know he is capable of. He was taken out in the second round by Youri Zoon (Slingshot) from
Holland who was going big and powerful. Mallory Da La Villemarque who is currently ranked 5th was taken out by local Alex Soto.
The girls were given the day off, but will be first up in the morning!
