Nescafe in Greece have bought into kitesurfing in a big way. In Paros this weekend Nescafe held a big party and invited some kitesurfers over. On arrival it was basically a beach bar with a DJ contest, some hot women dancers and 3 kitesurfers – Rolf and myself from Protest Clothing and a local rider called John who runs the kitesurfing school over there in Punda. I reckon the dancers got most of the attention, but there were microphones and cameras and a lot of talk in Greek about the kitesurfing – hope it was all good, although the conditions were hard. The wind came over the land and blew directly offshore with strong gusts of 30knots blasting thorugh broken up by lines of near enough no wind and the kites wanting to fall out of the sky. I was on my 6m or 8m, but at times the wind evened out and on the Sunday morning we had fairly ok 10m weather for one hour, when the camera crew would have got their best shots – but the rest of the time was strong gusty and very challenging!
Back on the beach there were plasma screens around the 2 bars showing the launch of the new Nescafe Frappe advert using Uk rider Lewis Crathern and dutch rider Randy Hereman. The advert is awesome. Not the latest moves, but it\’s super stylish, looks fun and exciting and just portrays kitesurfing in exactly the right way! Being as useless as I am I forgot to get a copy, but they are going to email it to me, so I will try to get it online asap.
In Athens Randy Hereman is kitesurfing in Photos on big billboard banners along the main roads and its great to see!
For now here are a few photos of the event. Sorry for the lack of action, but I was in all that and unable to take pictures. Next time you see nescafe! Buy it – they are buying into our sport and the drink tastes greattttt!!!
Thanks to Nescafe and Protest Clothing and all the people involved in getting us there and back safely.
