PKRA Canada Round 7

Boardseeker

The seventh stop of the PKRA is currently under way off the east coast of canada in the Iles de la Madeleine.  Its a beautiful island very plush and green and decorated with fresh water lagoons and beaches.

The air temperature is a little chilly when the wind blows, but the water temperature really isn\’t that cold.

For the first day of the contest the wind blew around 15knots from noon and the PKRA were able to run 2 course races as well as the single elimination of the freestyle/  Riders were out on kite sizes 12m’s through to 16m’s.  For the first time in a handful of contests the level was back to reaching it’s highest standard as the wind dropped below 7m weather.  Kite loop handle passes were back in the mix along with Aaron’s mobe 7’s and other handle passes to blind.

Back to normality also seemed to put riders results back to the normal path taken from the first few events of the year.

1st Aaron Hadlow (Flexifoil)

2nd Kevin Langeree (Naish)

3rd and 4th Alvaro Onieva (Best) and Youri Zoon (Slingshot) – this was the only heat not to be completed in the single elimination.

For the women Kristin Boese (Best) was riding well and secured the title of World Champion for a second year in a row.  She was landing back to wrapped (unhooked 720 rotation to land heelside with the bar in her back hand behind her back – named wrapped because her arm is wrapped behind her back – to get out of the move you have to pass the bar to your front hand or twist the bar up over your head to enable you to hook back in and ride away normally – yes it is complicated).  Other moves pulled out the bag by Kristin were kite loop to blind, s bend to blind and railey to blind all with surface handle passes.  Bruna Kajiya was hot on her heels landing railey to blind, down loop s bend. And nearly but not quite the move that won Bruna the PKRA event in Germany – a blind judge.

In the losers final I (Jo Wilson, Naish) was up against Ania Grzelinska – I let her win because it was her birthday J.  Ha, not really Ania and I had a sinking contest because the wind dropped off and to which I won.  Unfortunately for me the PKRA were actually after some quality freestyle action and Ania was more on form.  The heat following this was the losers final of the men.  The last heat of the day, but they cancelled it due to no wind.

Women Results

1st Kristin Boese (Best) now 2 x World Champion
