It was a hectic first day of the Tiree Wave Classic as sailors arriving on the early morning ferry, were quickly registrared and whizzed off to the Maze for the first round of waves. The waves weren\’t as big as the day before but still head high in the sets and a nice cross shore Force 5 breeze.
In the Ladies final, Ruth Elliott & Louise Emery battled it out in the waves, they long standing rivalry returned after a year out for Boardseeker Editor Louise. It was a close run affair with both girls catching 2 decent waves but it was Ruth that got more points and was the victor.
The Men\’s fleet saw some awesome sailing, particularly off Phil Horrocks who pulled off huge air flakas but unfortunatley not in the final where his lack of decent waves got him a third. John Hibbard was also ripping until the final where he didn\’t sail his usual best and got fourth. That left Goya rider Andy King and Tabou/Gaastra rider Jamie Hancock. Jamie has really improved and had been training on Tiree for some time before the event. This paid off with decent wave selection and solid riding. King had some tweaked aerials but this was not enough to beat young Hancock.
Now we are all at Gott Bay waiting for the next briefing at 1pm where it looks like Super X is on the cards.
