Who is F2 now..
F2 were once THE brand in windsurfing, if you wanted to go fast and be cool, then you were F2. Or so the ad\’s in the mid eighties said you were. You also had to wear blue and pink… Much of F2\’s success came from the rise and domination of a certain young Bjorn Dunkerbeck who stamped F2 with speed and racing prestige! There was however some pre Dunkerbeck designs that really built F2 into a classic brand. The Strato, Comet and Sunset Slalom, these were massively popular designs that stood the test of time. The Sunset Slalom remained un changed for over 10 years, and is back again in another guise. F2 signed Jason Polakow and Josh Stone and created one the best production board ranges around under the name of JP Australia and also the first ever proper freestyle board and Malibu style board. However in the late 90\’s Boards and More bought bought F2 and fortunes changed slightly. Dunkerbeck left, as did Jason Polokow and Josh Stone. Neil Pryde bought out the JP brand to limit the domination of Boards and More.
F2 still produced some classic designs but under the umbrella of Boards and More did not really stand out (coming from essentially the same stable as Mistral and Fanatic). Now they have an amazing windsurfing team including Finian Maynard, Tonky Frans, Karin Jaggi, Peter Volwater and John Skye, and from June a new owner, which is very good news for a company who many thought may have a doubted future.
The new owners is Reinhard Hofbauer who is a enthusiast with decades of sports management experience, no doubt there will be a lot of interest in the new direction of F2 away from the Boards and More group..
