There is a really strong entry at this year\’s Classic covering all fleets from Pros to Amatuers to Masters to Youths and Juniors. The sailors were welcomed to the Island at the local village hall last night where they picked up there quality goody bags courtesy of GUL. Then it was off to bed for an early start at The Maze in the south-east winds.
By 9am the field alongside The Maze was packed full of transit vans and by 10am the first heats started in the driving rain and cross offshore winds. The Pros went first and got down to the last 12 and with some chunky logo high sets coming through it was a classic contest. The usual suspects made it through but also the next generation of sailors like Rich Jones and Graham Woods. Last minute entry Finn Mullen also provided a challenge for the regular UKWA competitors. After several hours of competition the following 12 are still in and will start 2 man heats when the wind comes back which looks like on Friday.
