To many Andy was a legend in the world of windsurfing, reporting, enjoying and living windsurfing it is with a heavy heart that we have to announce his passing. It has been a sad yet also inspiring month for windsurfing, the loss of Mikey Clancy rocked the windsurfing world and still many remain shocked at what exactly happened at the same time we saw a true storm chase event take place at one of Mikey’s favourite spots. However, to now here that Andy Buchanan left us yesterday really has pulled our heart strings.
Having been surprisingly diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a form of cancer, four years ago it was a very much an on and off battle. After his initial treatment he fought the cancer for a year and a half before receiving the all clear and returning to the PWA as Press Officer. He enjoyed the tour for a few months before chasing his dream of becoming a pilot. It was not long after this that his illness returned and the hospitals called once again. A battle that lasted longer than the doctors predicted, Andy fought to the last day to make the most of his life and will be forever remembered for exactly this.
Our hearts go out to all his friends and family. Rest in peace Andy, you will not be forgotten.
