Robby Swift will now not take part in the Pozo competition after breaking his leg in three places during training. Robby has been in surgery and will join Boardseeker as soon as he’s recovered to answer any questions during the competition.
Boardseeker caught up with Swift to find his view on the top riders and more this year:
Name: Robby Swift
Best previous result: 1st Fuerteventura Freestyle 2003. 3rd PWA Waves 2005, 3rd PWA Waves 2009, 4th PWA Pozo last year.
Favourite move: Pushloop Forward, Wave 360
Favourite conditions: I love down the line wave riding (Backyards this year was amazing and Cabo Verde or Topocalma) I also really love Pozo when it is good. Gutted I am not there.
Favourite equipment set up: For waveriding, 82L Quad and 4.7 Combat. For Jumping 73L Single Thruster and 4.2 Combat
Who’s your pick of who to watch?
Ricardo and Philip. Brawzinho will do well this year too. Victor of course will be a force to be reckoned with.
What specialised equipment did you see at the beach?
Not much. Most people have production gear nowadays. I had a 3.4 Combat, same as last year and I think Ricardo stole that now
What do you think about 32 man situation?
It’s great. We really needed to cut down the size of the fleet as the contests were hardly ever full and people were just entering because they were there. Pozo is the only exception to that event but I think almost everyone got in who really wanted to. The trials is a fairer way of selecting who will get in the main event and now we can do man on man heats so the live streaming will be much better to watch. I am looking forward to watching it. (Unfortunately, rather than being on it!) Oh well, there will be time.
What new moves do you think we could see?
I think we could see some of Boujmaa’s cheeseroll backloops from Philip. Maybe some other things like pushloop doubles? Ricardo wanted to try that.
