Point-7 have announced that 2013 sees the addition of 5 new team riders to crew. What’s more they are stepping up the support with a training camp to take place in Tenerife at the start of this year until April! New for windsurfing this could well be the future as brands step up the professionalism in a bid to win more titles and prove their worth.
Our international riders have been generating top 5 and 10 results throughout the season in all disciplines last year. Now our next aim is to get our athletes to work as a team throughout this winter. In our sport nowadays, every pro windsurfer works individually, but in Point-7 we want to change this. The whole team will gather between the 15th of January in Tenerife till end of April to work together in improving their skills, tuning their gear, work on development of new ideas, but mainly start feeling the advantages as working as a real team. The set up is ready and we are anxious to start.
Andrea Cucchi – “when I was only racing, a key point was to have a training partner on the water to push each other’s motivation and level. I had a trainer on land to also motivate my fitness and already with this little set up the results were improving. The BLACK TEAM idea, as Point-7 is developing, would have been even a greater support. It’s nothing new in other sports, but something which is long time not really existing in windsurfing. I believe it’s a dream for riders that a brand is now pushing this way. It will not be an easy task as it’s an individual sport and many riders have their ‘system’. There is no real education between the windsurfing athletes to work in this direction, but we believe that this will, in some years, create a difference. We’ll make it happen in windsurfing once again.”
