In the UK the hottest event in the student windsurfing calendar is about to take place – The Student Windsurfing Nationals. Each year nearly 1,000 students flock to Southampton where they open up the entertainment on the Friday night with a ‘gentle’ party followed by some windsurfing and a bit of racing on Saturday. Saturday evening and they all don their finest fancy dress and take to the water on the largest annual UK student boat party. Tales are told and moves are practised on the dance floor but the wise stay cool as Sunday offers more racing, freestyle competitions and some coaching from top windsurfers around the country. Amongst all that is a stack of demo kit from all the big brands in the UK and often a scattering of pro windsurfers as well.
However, this year, above ALL that, has been a heated battle for the hotly contested Student Freestyle Windsurfer of the year, which guarantees you the full rockstar lifestyle: girls, cash and more windsurfing kit than you can fit in a student flat*. Previous winners have been the likes of John Skye and Adam Sims, who now both compete on the PWA World Tour. In contention this year is UK windsurfer Olly Acton up against Italian ripper Nicola Terenzi and what a showdown this could be, just check out the video below!
If you fancy witnessing the event then it will be taking place this very weekend – 27/28th April.
