The Windmeet Freestyle Tour continues!

After the first two events close to Marseille and Toulon (south of France), Windmeet moved to Leucate for the third stop in 2013. This time, Caroline Barbeau and Julien Taboulet were hosting the entourage in their windsurf Center: the “Wesh Center Crew”. Over to the event organisers for more and check out the video of the action below, stay tuned to keep up to speed with all the latest happenings in the world of french freestyle.

The best French freestylers were all there including the Team France Windsurf crew who were well represented with the likes of Julien Mas, Nicolas Akgaciyan and Adrien Bosson. Stephanie Signory was the only girl in this event but the good news came from the kids: 4 of them were present to compete even with a poor forecast!

Despite the wonderful place, the wind was not there the first day. But as usual, the organisation team prepared everything that was necessary to please riders and public: Stand Up Paddle Racing, Light Wind Freestyle competition on big boards and of course, a Tow-in Freestyle Contest (towed windsurfing). A big show was put on thanks to big moves and some spectacular crashes close to the beach. Lastly, there were also some windsurf brands on-site to present their 100% freestyle products.

For the Tow-In contest, the best were there and more and more riders began to feel confident with this new discipline, which can be quite tricky the first few times. After qualifications, the five best riders meet at the beach as the sun began to set. Two runs each gave the opportunity for the judges to declare a winner: amplitude, style and risk were the keys for victory!

Podium Freestyle Light Wind:

- Felipe Minier

Podium Freestyle Light Wind Kids:

After this nice day, everyone met for a great party in the Wesh Center Crew. Teh party was long for a lot of riders because they came from many different places and were all very pleased to have the chance to catch up!

The next day, the usual Tramontana was not there but an East wind was forecast for the afternoon… The spot orientation is not the best one for this wind so all the riders met at the road of Roussillon to try and find the best possible spot. Unfortunately, despite several stops and a strong dropping tide, the level of wind (and the water) was not high enough to launch the Freestyle contest.

So back to the Wesh Center Crew to finish the day, with still some action on the beach in front of the dropping sun!

This weekend was wrapped up with the prize giving ceremony, which had several podiums: “light wind” freestyle, Tow-in, Stand Up Paddle and kids!

Big up to all the “Wesh Center Crew” team who were such good hosts to us! Also to the surf shops (Chinook, Naish Pro Center and Surf one) for all the gifts for the winners and the lottery, and to Ride Production for the video.

See you for the next event in July, the “Vincent Mellouet Memorial”, which will be at the “Monteynard Lake”. Rendez vous 5th, 6th and 7th of July.
