New school, old school, jumps and waves; here are the moves that scored the big points to win those heats. Photos courtesy of PWA/Carter.

| SAILOR: |
Kauli Seadi |
| MOVE: |
Pushloop forward |
| RESULT: |
2nd |
This move came out of the bag in a heat against Alex Mussolini. With only one jump to count he needed to score big against Alex. Kauli had been pulling off a few in practice but during the heat the wind was a touch onshore and he just didn’t get the rotation in the forward. He may not have sailed away from it, but it was the first ever pushloop forward attempt in a PWA heat. |

| SAILOR: |
Kauli Seadi |
| MOVE: |
Air Chacho |
| RESULT: |
2nd |
This is Kauli's signature jump and in the pretty awful conditions (onshore with small ramps) this jump was tried time and time again by lots of sailors. However, Kauli gets full marks for performing the cleanest air chachos of the event. |

|
| SAILOR: |
Yann Sorlut |
| MOVE: |
Goita |
| RESULT: |
Joint 5th |
This Frenchman has been around for a while and is a cracking sailor but just never got that breakthrough result until he beat Kevin Pritchard (current PWA Wave Champion) in the second round. His confidence was high and as such he went for this goita. Not many wave moves were seen nor scored but this stood out. |

| SAILOR: |
Kauli Seadi |
| MOVE: |
Clew first backloop |
| RESULT: |
2nd |
Not many sailors do this move, which is quite surprising as they score well and we are told they are not too difficult!! They also give those precious overall impression points when the jumping ramps are not that good. |

|
| SAILOR: |
Graham Ezzy |
| MOVE: |
Double Forward |
| RESULT: |
Joint 17th |
Not many doubles at this event mainly due to the poor ramps so those that did them need congratulating! Despite Graham breaking his mast in the attempt, it still got him through his heat. |

| SAILOR: |
Marcilio Browne |
| MOVE: |
Air Chacho |
| RESULT: |
4th |
Marcilio has made that leap from the boy who got a good result to a real man contender for the overall Wave title!! He had all the tricky jumps, like this air chacho, and was also consistent in the onshore mush. He took out Yann Sorlut who was having a blinder of a contest as well as Ross Williams in a very, very close heat. |

|
|
| SAILOR: |
Kevin Pritchard |
| MOVE: |
Backloop |
| RESULT: |
Joint 17th |
A solid move from Kevin, but no X Factor! You could say this was the move that didn’t matter against Yann Sorlut. Still Kevin looked good in the waves but he needs more variety in the jumping category to beat off the likes of Yann. |

| SAILOR: |
Josh Angulo |
| MOVE: |
One-handed backloop + One handed table top |
| RESULT: |
3rd |
But then there is Josh. He doesn’t have all the tricky stuff but he has plenty of style and balls! To show total control in your jumps take your hand off! Easy? Well with so much riding on getting a high scoring jump, most sailors didn’t want to risk it. Angulo looked like he could land one-handed jumps in his sleep (he probably does). |

|
| SAILOR: |
Ricardo Campello |
| MOVE: |
Table top forward |
| RESULT: |
Joint 17th |
This is a strange looking move. As he hits the top of the wave, it throws him off wrong. Most would crash and burn at this point but Ricardo handles the change in direction and lands bolt upright. Typical Campello. |

| SAILOR: |
Yann Sorlut |
| MOVE: |
Forward loop |
| RESULT: |
Joint 5th |
This was one of the best forward of the competition and lucky for Yann, it was against Kevin Pritchard in the second round. Yann was just on fire and we think Kevin just didn’t realise he had to pull everything out of the bag to beat him. What a scalp to take! |

|
|
| SAILOR: |
Levi Siver |
| MOVE: |
Wave Ride |
| RESULT: |
Joint 17th |
Levi was unlucky in his heat. Unable to find a wave on which to impress the judges, he was gutted that he just couldn’t show off his starboard tack skills. However, he still looks fairly good to us in this video, making the most of the crappy conditions. |

| SAILOR: |
Jason Polakow |
| MOVE: |
Wave Ride |
| RESULT: |
Joint 9th |
This is a nice ride with a tweaked air. Like Levi, the conditions let him down and with his jumping not being as radical as the younger crew; he was unable to rack up the points. Joint 9th may be good for some, but we expect more from the main man! |
| |
|
|
| SAILOR: |
Thomas Traversa |
| MOVE: |
Wave Ride |
| RESULT: |
Joint 5th |
Guincho is very much like Thomas’s home spot and this showed as the lanky Frenchman whizzed his way up and down the waves combining more top & bottom turns then naked bottoms on the beach. With some solid, new school jumping, young Thomas is surely at the head of the next generation of French rippers. |

| SAILOR: |
John Skye |
| MOVE: |
Pushloop with a tweak |
| RESULT: |
Joint 9th |
Read all about this in his column this week but John says he just got stuck up there before landing it perfectly and knocking out Ricardo Campello in the process. |
| |
|
|
| SAILOR: |
Boujamaa Guilloul |
| MOVE: |
Tweaked pushloop |
| RESULT: |
Joint 5th |
Boujamaa lived up to his hype! The starboard tack specialist finally worked out how to win heats and progress through the elimination ladder. His jumping has always been world class but combined with good wave selection and tactical thinking, Boujamaa got through to the semi-finals settling for a joint 5th. |

| SAILOR: |
Victor Fernandez |
| MOVE: |
Tweaked pushloop |
| RESULT: |
Champion! |
This is one of Victor’s stock moves. To other sailors, this would be their star move but not for the champion of the air! He trained hard for this event, he sailed perfect heats, he landed all his jumps…he was the deserved champion. |

We put this clip in to show just how much the sailors had to work those small(ish) ramps. Off the same wave Kevin Pritchard goes first with a forward, then John Skye follows with a pushloop, Yann Sorlut with a backloop and Ricardo Campello with a pushloop. Neat! |
