Two Spanish sisters ruled the waves this year with a certain Swiss lady in third – yes, no change here. But it was good to see Nayra Alonso back competing after months out with a broken foot. She held onto her usual fourth place until the double elimination where fellow Spaniard Silvia Alba Orozco beat her into fifth. Evi Tsape was our hotshot to stir up the women’s fleet and she certainly impressed the judges in the SuperSession but couldn’t convert her perfect pushloops into enough points to get to that final five. Junko Nagoshi was again consistent in the waves with a sixth place but in reality all the girls need to step it up if there are ever going to beat the Moreno’s on their home patch.
