Boardseeker Sailor of the Year

Kauli Seadi

In Cabo Verde this year, he raised the bar for wave sailing to such a level that the rest of the fleet have spent the whole year trying to catch up.  He's not only super stylish on the wave, but he's pretty awesome in the air as well, pulling off the first ever pushloop forward earlier in the year.

Bagging the PWA Wave World title in October was the icing on the cake. Kauli wins our 'Sailor of the Year' award with ease this year!

Best 'Underdogs'

These are the sailors who revel at freesailing.  They don't get as much hype as some of the other guys (and girls) because their competition results don't always match their abilities. But if you go to the beach today, these are the people who will catch your attention:

  • UK: Andy King - The ginger topped back looper.  The UK title eluded him this year, but free sailing, Andy is head and shoulders above any other sailor on the water. He back loops with more consistency than anyone we have ever seen.
  • Europe: Dany Bruch - You might not have heard much about Dany, but just look at his jump in our 'highest jump of the year' award below and you will see why we have included him here.
  • Rest of World: Keith Teboul - The chief shaper for Quatro International.  Keith has a similar 'surfy' style to Kauli on the water.  He may not enter many competitions, but he is still regarded as one of the best wave riders in the World.
  • Lady: Steffi Wahl - German wave sensation.  She's one of those girls who manages to 'sail like a guy' on the water- and that's a good thing! She waverides with style and power and her jumping is top notch as well.  Well done Steffi!

Best Teenage Talent

Freestyle: Marcilio Browne

It has to be World Champion Marcilio Browne who took the title from under Kiri Thode’s boom in Sylt this September. He’s also quite handy in the waves finishing 18th overall in the PWA Wave rankings.

Waves: Jaegar Stone

Sixteen year old Jaegar has all the tricks; doubles, combination jumps, takas, shakas and the best travelling buddy any decent sailor could wish for: Scotty McKercher. We predict here that he will be the next Australian PWA wave champ. No pressure then.

Board Graphic of the Year (As voted for by YOU)

For the second year running, you voted Angulo boards as having the nicest graphics on the market.....and who are we to argue?!!

Sail Graphic of the Year (As voted for by YOU)

A surprise this year as you voted Hot Sails Maui as the prettiest sails on the water.

Best PWA event of the Year

Cape Verde - Well there is no question that Cape Verde was the best event this year, probably the best event there has ever been and maybe even the best event there will ever be.  Check out the Boardseeker Annual DVD for some of the hottest windsurfing action you will ever see.

Best other event of the Year

Windsurf Challenge from Madagascar - this was something different!  Its featured in the Boardseeker Annual DVD and is some of the nicest action footage we have ever seen.  Crystal clear water, very strong winds, white sandy beaches and the best freestylers on the planet.  A winning combination!

Best Accessory

The Cayman Yachts 50 foot RRD Windsurfing Motor Boat. Need we say more?
