Rhosneigr, North Wales: 29th March 2008

We may currently be stuck in the light wind, sunny doldrums, but here is what life was like only a few weeks ago. Bring on the ‘bad’ summer weather!!

Photographer Si Crowther tells the story:

"Wednesday night, and all eyes are on the charts, with WaveJam warning lights flaring, pretty soon Thorpy's on the phone discussing the forecast and assessing the 'call'. It's soon apparent this would be a toughie, there's a good chance Gwithian could fire big time in a strong but brief southerly blow. Oh Bugger! I'm scheduled in for Boardseeker's freeride test photoshoot for the coming weekend (& now left with thoughts of binning Wales and heading south, sorry Ade!)

By Thursday it was all change, Rhossy was now showing southerly 6 to 8 on Saturday, & 5 to 7 southwest for Sunday, WaveJam was on & confidence in the conditions was high, but we were undecided on Cornwall or Wales. There was nothing else for it, the call had to be put to the vote, and, Rhossy came out on top! Would you bloody believe it! I didn't vote as I couldn't go anywhere but Rhossy, but the decision to run in North Wales was pure quality, what a result!

Friday, an hour up the M6, just past Birmingham & the phone goes, it's a text from Steve, "WaveJam Gwithian is on! looks like 2 days S/W & decent swell. Sorry dude!" Gutted, turns out Osin VG voted Rhossy on a casting vote, then declared he couldn't make it! That squared the votes, leaving Steve to make the call and Gwithian it was, to be fair it was the right call. On the bright side, I knew Phil & Ben would be at Rhossy, the forecast was still looking sick for the Saturday, and I was real keen to see what the boys had learnt during their 3 months training in Cape Town (It's a hard life for some!) needless to say, I wasn't disappointed."
