The WindSurfCoaching duo that is Colin ‘Whippy’ Dixon and Marco ‘Dancing’ Wedele have been spreading the coaching love all over Europe already. Departing the UK and driving down to Tarifa they held a successful camp in what is fast becoming the ‘re-discovered’ wind capital of Europe, perhaps an iconic and appropriate destination to visit first. So what could possible beat that, well perhaps even more appropriate was their next stop in Podersdorf where they joined the PWA freestylers on the 25th year of the Surf World Cup for a week of fun before their next clinic on Lake Neusiedler, here for just a few more hours the boys are enjoying a final session of their own before heading off to their next iconic location – Lake Garda. The heart of modern day windsurfing, this is where names such as Josh Stone and Diony Guadagnino became famous from the King of the Lake contest back in the day. With just a few spaces up for grabs there is still a chance to get some top quality coaching from two of the most highly respected coaches in the industry. We caught up with Colin before the two set off to Italian shores, check out his words below and our one piece of advice to them is be sure to fill up your tank before leaving Austria…

Getting prepared for their first clinic in Austria

“Hi guys, just a quick hello from WindSurfCoaching touring around in the mega van, we are on our last days in Austria where we have been here for three weeks already. The first two weeks for the world cup, that was unreal and I’m sure you seen all the footage, we hosted a clinic at the end of the world cup and the weather has been really good to us, sunny and windy for most of the time, got to love this place, so many cool chilled friendly people. To be fair the clinic wasn’t as busy as we thought it was going to be, bearing in mind that if it’s windy here it’s like a completely different world, there are a massive amount of windsurfers, from real old people riding retro kit to the youths that are spinning like mad, it’s really nice to see so many people still loving the sport the we love so much. At the same time it was very frustrating because we know if half of them came along to the lessons they would really get so much out of the weekend! That said, the guys who came really enjoyed their time, learnt a lot and are all happy and are going to come back to spread the windsurf coaching love for next year. Big thanks for everyone who looked after us and made us feel so welcome.

We are off to Italy, Lake Garda next, another clinic and the forecast looks ok but we are big karma fans and the wind gods have been so good to us with Tarifa and now Austria 100% wind we hope to get something similar in Italy, you never know with their thermal winds.

We have a few places left so get on last minute flight or jump in your van and join us by emailing colin@windsurfcoaching.com.

We also are going to southern Italy before finally ending up in ClubVass for the summer so stay tuned and keep an eye out for the UK dates coming very very soon…

Cheers Colin and Marco”

Check out their poster for the up and coming stop in Garda, you’d be a fool to miss out on such top quality coaching.

Well a small group of German freestylers, decided to make their own passage there to tear up the flatwaters of Sao Vicente. Featuring Adrian Beholz, Meikel Thies and Valentin Bockler the crew had quite the adventure when they wanted to leave from Sal to Sao Vicente, you can hear all about it in this super nice edit.

Sebastian: “Year 2013 welcomes us with a warm and friendly south easter nearly all January and February. I think we just had five or six days without windsurfing.

Some of us made a safari, went skydiving, did a hiking trip to the Draken Mountains where we slept on 3000 m over sea level or we went out for a lot of SUP surfing!

It was so much fun with good friends and we will be back next year!

CAPETOWN ROCKZ!”

“I’m stoked to sign to Neff, I already loved the gear so it really is awesome to be using it. Not so well known in the water-sports world and less so in the UK, my main focus is to bring it to these peoples attention.

Sigri appeared on the radar this year due to the EFPT event that was held there. Hosting some of the worlds finest freestyle talent during the three day event, they scored good winds and managed to hold a complete double elimination. Top names that were there included Youp Schmit, Davy Scheffers, Adrian Beholz, Andraz Zan, UK freestyler Adam Sims and Austrian tow in weapon Max Matissek. Now the centre has produced a video highlighting the skills of some of these freestyle stars amongst scenic shots and clips of the surrounding area and town.

Fully into swing, the Boot Dusseldorf trade show has now passed the halfway mark, so we decided to check on on all the latest happenings from this world famous water-sports show. Be sure to crack out your German-English translator though…

Firstly, Philip Koester, the German windsurfing wunderkind received the prestigious Surfer of the Year Award for his third consecutive year. An impressive feat from such a young windsurfer, take a look at the awards presentation in this clip.

Up next, Fanatics very own freestyling German surfer Adrian Beholz has been showing his face. There are some outstanding action shots in this video as Adrian powers through all the latest freestyle moves, at the same time he talks about the new sails with the head sail designer from Sailloft.

Moving on to the German Windsurf Talent of the Year, Nico Prien who impressed all throughout the Deutsch Windsurfing Cup. Heading home with a cool €2013, it looks like he is set for some summer training. Expect to hear more from Nico in the future.

The last video for this news item comes from a popular figure in Germany, Daniell Bohnhof. Spending a lot of his time in Pozo he has built up a reputation and was asked to come on stage to talk about his latest quests and his photography plans.

Colin ‘Whippy’ Dixon from Windsurf Coaching has been in touch about his latest updates to their ride. It looks like the van is beginning to take shape inside. However the outside has some way to go, below is the first part of the latest update, click on the link underneath that to read more, and we’ve got another of their trailers from their Coaching DVD that was released last year. If you fancy getting some coaching from the Colin and Marco as they venture around Europe this year, then hit them up on their contact page.

We’ve also just heard some fresh news from Marco Wedele who has just signed to Sailloft for this coming season, check out the updates on his facebook page.

First thing was to work out what sort of insulation I needed. I did lots of research into what most high end camper vans, motor homes and van conversions used, and I decided to start with foil that is like Celetex but a lot easier to use and go’s in tricky places a lot easier. This stuff reflects the heat from both ways, so when its hot outside of the van in a hot place it will keep it cool inside. Also being a white van it will help, when its cold outside it will keep the heat inside of the van, happy days!

UK freestyler Adam Sims posted a new update on his over the weekend with a whole host of tips on how to forward and how to land with speed. Not your usual pointers you may find a thing or two in there that will be of some use. Check out the full report on his website by clicking here. You’ll find the first bit of text and the video below.

THE FORWARD LOOP
The forward loop is one of those classic moves that just about everyone wants to crack and everyone is teaching. To find the basics of the move I would suggest checking in on a clinic with a pro-coach (maybe I will do a clinic in the future if there is any demand), you’ll learn plenty about it from how to grow the balls to get yourself back slapping to landing upright. What you will get from this bit of text and video is how to get height out of nothing and how to land with the same speed you went into it.

There are three key factors that you can learn one at a time. When these are combined you’ll find yourself rotating and landing like never before.

Making these videos is time consuming and costly soooo if you learnt something or found it helpful/insightful in anyway and wish to see more then please CLICK HERE(and scroll down to the ‘Make a Tip’ link) to make a donation, if you wish. Any amount is welcome, please note 15% goes to vimeo.com.

1. THE TAKE-OFF
Two essential parts to this, you want to be well powered up or to the point of being almost over powered. This way you will help yourself when it comes to the next two parts. For the take-off itself you need a small bit of chop that is either the face or the back of the chop/wave (it’s easier to land with speed if you go off the back of a bit of chop/wave. You want to be sailing in a direction that is somewhe…………. click here for the rest.

A series of moves are promised over the coming week so tune back in again soon for more.

The European Freestyle Pro Tour Sailor of the Year award came to its final conclusion yesterday. There were nine riders nominated, with a high profile list that included; Andraz Zan (F2/F2) from Slovenia, Dieter Van der Eyken (Starboard) from Belgium, Gabriele Varrucciu (Naish/Naish) from Italy, Adrian Beholz (Fanatic/Sailloft) from Germany, Mattia Fabrizi (North/Fanatic) from Italy, Italian JacopoTesta (RRD/RRD), Adam Sims (Sailloft) and Andy ‘Bubble’ Chambers (JP/Neilpryde) from the UK and Youp Schmit (JP/Neilpryde) who competes for the Netherlands.

In the end it was Adam Sims from the UK who took the award with a pro-active performance as both a competitor and an event organiser.

We caught up with Hanna Poschinger, EFPT Press Officer and Tour Manager for a few words about the competition and the final winner:

“We had a fantastic time this year on the tour, there was a lot of support from the industry, the event organisers and the competitors themselves. The idea behind this competition was to help highlight the supporting industry brands of the EFPT and to promote the sailors and the tour through the public vote. We had a number of important characters from all over Europe within the draw, which saw almost 1,200 LIKES and 250 SHARES. Our final winner really deserved it due to his consistent and great overall result (8th place) but also for being a huge driving force as one of the organisers of the final EFPT stop in Weymouth, England. This was also a first for the UK and we hope to return there at the end of this year. Congratulations to all the nominees and competitors on this years European Freestyle Pro Tour.”

An interview and more is promised on efpt.net soon.

Further to this Rick Jendrusch became the EFPT Rookie of the Year after showing some impressive sailing throughout 2012. However, many will remember his come back at the King of the Wind event in the UK where he charged his way past many high profile freestylers to finish 4th. His level continues to improve fast and we look forward to seeing him back in action on the EFPT and PWA next year.
