With the record so close to the illusive 50 kts, everyone is keen to get on the speed program. The latest entry is from the French boat; L'Hydroptere.

Its basically a trimaran with extra underwater wings, that they hope will lift the hull out of the water at top speed, reducing drag, and hopefully giving it the chance to hit 50kts.

Last year the boat hit 44.81kts back in April 2007 and took the Category D record (sails over 300ft/27.8m) but since then it has been off the water and getting tuned up ready for another go at the record.
